I have been a Sonicare user for decades. I decided to switch when Sonicare claimed it couldn't find my registration, so it wouldn't honor its warranty.
The AcquaSonic looks exactly like the Sonicare Diamond Clean, but costs one-fifth of the price ($36.95 on Amazon vs. $198.95). Incidentally, the "motor" in the Diamond Clean is identical to less-expensive Sonicare models. It only performs better because of the brush, which fits on the AquaSonic.
I have no idea how long the AquaSonic will last, but it has a 13-month warranty vs. two and a half years for Sonicare if you register the purchase. So I can replace the Aquasonic and it would still cost less. Based on my experience with Sonicare, the wand will only stop working when the lithium battery dies or if you drop it on the floor. On the negative side, it isn't clear how you contact Beauty Imports (the seller of AquaSonic) if there is a problem while Sonicare's customer service (except for losing my registration) has been exceptional.
Addendum: Now that I have owned the AquaSonic for a few months, I can report that the brushing seems to be as effective as with a Sonicare (what counts is the brush, not the wand). On the plus side, I have been getting an incredible 60 two-minute brushes per charge (two a day for thirty days), more than twice my experience with Sonicare, suggesting that the battery will last longer. On the minus side, the timer stopped working after one week. Amazon eventually figured out how to fix the problem (Amazon handles tech support calls, but the rep doesn't specialize in AquaSonic -- she has to look up the answer). In case you have the same issue, just press the "on" button for 20 seconds, the same solution is needed when Sonicare has this problem.
The Aquacare seems to clean just as well as Sonicare, is slightly (0.6 ounces) lighter, has a battery that lasts twice as long (four weeks versus two), and comes with more brushes (eight one). Sonicare comes with a pressure sensor, which I think is a solution in search of a problem.
The average AquaSonic review on Amazon (4.7 stars) is better than the $69.95 Sonicare 4100 (4.3 stars), with the bad reviews criticizing the electric toothbrush experience, the brush heads cracking, or the battery failing. The last two items are covered by a warranty. If Beauty Imports isn't responsive, contact Amazon, which has incredibly good customer service.

I ordered 2 of these units several weeks ago at a much lower price. They were Amazon Prime deliverables. As far as the unit itself, it is an EXCELLENT product. I have owned and used both Oral-B and Sonicare sets, each with 2 handles and charging bases. Each one lasted a "couple" of years, sharing with my spouse before the batteries couldn't take a charge anymore. Since then, I have purchased a "generic" set through Groupon and the same lifespan resulted. All of the toothbrushes had NiCad batteries. You have to go to the higher-end new models in Oral-B and Sonicare to get Lithium batteries, which, as in smartphones, is the latest and best battery technology. The AquaSonic comes with a Lithium battery! The handle is rubberized for a good grip and is a sleek matte black. It looks elegant. Performance is superb and the various modes and 30-second timers with auto shut-off is a terrific feature. The Oral-B merely stutter-stepped extra long to signal the 2-minute cycle but would keep running until manually shut off. After weeks, the first brush head is still firm and shows no sign of curling wear. The set of 9 will last a long time. I suggest waiting for the item to come back to Amazon Prime at a fifth of the price I see for the latest product posting. It is a fabulous brush set.

I waited to post this review until I went In For my quarterly periodontal this week. What prompted me to buy this in the first place was the dental hygienist's recommendation to purchase an electric toothbrush and after shopping around this is the best deal in the market. What’s even better is my hygienist didn’t need to use a water park and just used a dental instrument to clean my teeth as there was hardly any tartar buildup after using this for 3 months. She even recommended that I come in 2x a yr instead of 4x a yr so thereby saving evening more $$ for copays etc. this toothbrush works great and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. It will give the big guys like sonic care and oral B a run for their $$$....now my wife wants one!!
Update: love this toothbrush but now it’s not holding its charge. Can the lithium battery be replaced?

Likes others have mentioned the brush is powerful and definitely leaves you with the fresh out of the dentist chair feeling. It has a rubberized feeling to it which helps you grip the brush better while you are brushing. The pauses as others have mentioned are to let you know it's time to proceed to the next area of your mouth which is a good feature. All in all, I'd recommend you at least try this brush before spending a ton on the other brand-name brushes which produce the same end result. For 30.00 you can't go wrong.

I had to work my way up to Clean mode. I started with the soft mode for a few weeks until I got used to this thing and now I can handle the clean mode every time. Leaves my teeth feeling really clean. Mine SO has a Sonic toothbrush and it looks gross all the time and needs to be periodically taken apart and cleaned. This thing does not. It is made well and stays clean with a simple rinsing after use. This may be TMI, but when you spit after use, the particles of food that come out are significant! It really gets between the teeth and cleans them out. I have brought it on overnight trips and it holds the charge. My only advice is to turn it on after it is in your mouth or you will lose your toothpaste!

5.0 out of 5 stars Un cepillo eléctrico excelente
Simplemente wow. Buena compra 10/10
